By Cody Gardella

There is an extra burden for spouses of service members to attempt to further their careers and schooling. Even if their goals entail further study, sometimes they find it difficult or impossible due to frequent relocation. Military spouse education benefits allow for coursework to be taken entirely online. This enables them to continue their coursework without interruption.

Although some schools will accept transfer credit, it can be difficult to do that, and sometimes it is impossible. Not all institutions give the same credit for those courses. This leads to an interruptions, and sometimes even a loss of credits. When the study in online, that is not a problem.

It is a necessary to examine goals and dreams before beginning an educational pursuit. It must be decided what the real goal is in reference to the career, and what professional goals are important. Then, the amount of additional schooling required should be determined so that goals and dreams are able to be met.

Once the degree has been decided on, one should check several schools to see what courses are provided for that major in them. Once that is done, include online ones. Attempt to match the curriculum of the major colleges and universities as closely as possible with the online choices. If no one online school matches exactly, choose the one that comes closest to matching important courses that apply to the major study.

Requirements for pursuing online study should be clarified, including the possible requirement of a residency period. It must be determined if the computer equipment is adequate. Another important thing to clarify is the scheduling. One needs to know if scheduling is flexible or rigid.

Accreditation of any online schools should also be thoroughly checked out. This is probably necessary in order to receive full military spouse education benefits. Not all online schools have the same accreditation as local colleges and universities.
