Information You Ought To Know About Hardieplank Siding

By Heather Crease

The outer covering of a house that is meant to protect the house from water and the effects of weather is usually used by home owners to add to the aesthetic aspects of the house and also to directly influence the value of the house. The cover may be in vertical or horizontal sheet materials. The greatest challenges that face any of the forms are the infiltration of water through the joints. This challenge can be met using interlocking where a groove to seal the joints is created. However these materials vary as temperatures and humidity changes, it is not reasonable to construct rigid joint parts. This is known as hardieplank siding.

This cladding can be made from materials ranging from timber, concrete plastic or even thatch. The elements can be nailed to the structure or to an affixed lining of timber slates. If you decide to clad your building with timber you will need to do regular maintenance tasks as timber can be attacked by insects. This makes it an expensive material in maintenance.

Apart from that, wood also causes a lot of harm to your environment. Even though wood is quite renewable, some of the chemicals that are needed for this process are toxic to the environment. However, wood has an advantage of that it has good insulation properties thus making it preferred over the others. It also has some structural properties that make it better to use.

The use of cement in house covering is one way of keeping the costs down. The cement panels require no treatment after installation unlike wood that has to be treated regularly. These cement panels are also fairly durable. For this reason cement covering is extensively used both commercially and at the domestic level.

Although the most common use of concrete cladding is on the outside it can also be used in interior counter tops and washrooms. Concrete is also used in place of timber barge boards in places where there is a likelihood of combustion. Concrete is fireproof and can withstand moisture.

Cement is also very efficient when used as a soundproof material. This is due to its high density nature. A thick material is the most suitable for this purpose. Thus, the thicker it is the better. This property is what makes cement suitable. In case the cement sheets are not dense, you would rather make another wall between the two.

Cement is also a very heavy product and will require at least two people to carry one uncut sheet. Care must also be taken when carrying the sheets and during installation. Cement is fragile and if not carefully carried it may break. It may also break during the installation if care is not taken.

Painting of the hardieplank siding can be done prior to fixing it to that structure or when it has already been fixated to the building. Paint that is not permeable to moisture must be used if the humidity levels are high. Beautiful patterns can then be created using timber pieces that also serve to block the leakage areas.
