Trying Fake Tan Cream To Develop A No Risk Tan

By Haywwod Hunter

Self tanning requires a process of chemical reactions by applying a mixture of chemicals to the skin. The tan is created by these reactions. In the 1960's studies discovered a link between sun exposure and skin cancer. Since then, one of the most popular methods for tanning safely has been through the application of fake tan cream.

Fake tan cream would not work so well if it did not contain dihydroxyacetone, also called DHA. DHA isn't a skin stain or dye, but it does cause a reaction when introduced to dead skin cells and their amino acids. That reaction is the tanning effect of these types of creams. Fake tan cream is a much safer alternative to the sun. It does not react with pigmentation and as a result eliminated the need for UV rays to tan the skin. While the tan is short term, usually about a week, it can be reapplied as often as needed.

A skin reaction could possibly occur in people with skin sensitivity issues when they use fake tan cream. Testing on a small patch of skin should always be done before a full application takes place. A waiting period of 24 hours, after the test area is covered, should occur to insure no rash is going to develop. After the waiting period, no reaction means a person is free to apply the cream to their entire body.

A natural appearing tan can be achieved by anyone, right at home, by using fake tan cream. Cleaned and thoroughly dried skin are the best to start with and will result in a better tanning experience. Showering and swimming should not be done until 1 to 6 hours have passed. This gives the fake tan cream enough time to properly absorb into the skin.

Skin on the hands and feet tends to be much thicker than the skin on other parts of the body. Users should not be heavily apply fake tan cream to these areas as they will turn much darker than other areas. For a light tan on the hands and feet the cream should be washed off a few minutes after it has been applied there.

Quality fake tan cream should be used rather than some of the cheaper varieties. Many cheaper creams offer little, if any, results. The higher end creams almost always work extremely well. They also require less of the cream to be applied as well.

Most beauty based products come scented and fake tan cream is no different. Men and women alike should be able to find something suitable with so many options on the market today. Extremely light scents of fake tan cream are typically favored by men while women often love the stronger and more feminine scents. Unscented versions can also be found if sensitivity is an issue.

Fake tan cream users might try many different brands and varieties before they find the one that like best. Each brand will have it's own distinct characteristics. Each brand also has numerous different variations to choose from. Different shades are available, for instance, so lighter skinned individuals should avoid the darkest shades if they are looking for a natural looking tan.
