How To Do The O2 Sensor Recycling

By Amanda Baird

There will surely come a time when car owners will need for O2 sensor recycling. If this is the case, the first thing that they will need to do is to look for a recycling website and sign up for the programs they offer. They will send in a shipping label one can use. Of course, the person may also visit the local recycler for this.

Depending on what option the person chooses, there may be a certain number of sensors the person will have to fulfill in order to send the said item. Once the number is reached, then make sure to place them in a padded postal envelope. A box will also do for this one. After that, attach the shipping label one has obtained.

Remember to seal the postal envelope or box well. The person will then need to bring the postal envelope or box to the post office to ship it to the recycler. If the chosen recycler is just a local one, then the person will just need to drive and drop off the envelope or box to the location that the local recycler has indicated.

There may be times when the person just needs to clean or reuse the said product. If this is the case, then what the person just needs to do is to remove the product from the vehicle. Be sure to put one goggles and a face shield for protection. The person will also have to wear a pair of fire-retardant gloves.

It will be necessary for the person to use the blowtorch. If the person is not used to this, it might be best to look for someone who is skilled to do this step. The blowtorch will emit heat and flames so it is better to be careful when handling it. Mishandling it will cause injuries or more troubles than one can imagine.

The person will also need some tongs. The person will use the tongs to pick up the sensors. After that, the person has to expose the tip of this product to the flames for a few seconds. The combustion process will easily coat the tip with new residue. This will then break up the hardened residue on the product.

Remember to remove the sensors from exposure to the flames as soon as a few seconds are up. Let it cool down for a few seconds once again. After a good time has passed, the person will just need to dip the tip underwater to further cool the product down. There is no need to dip the entire sensors underwater. Just dipping the product's tip underwater will do.

The tip might have some build up. For this case, the person just needs to spray the tip with compressed air. Repeat this process as often as necessary in order to remove the said build up.

Once everything is done, the person just needs to replace the product into the exhaust manifold. Test it to see if the cleaning is worth it. If it does not work properly even after the said steps are done properly, then the person will need to buy a new one. The old one needs to be scrapped for O2 sensor recycling.
