Sydney Australia Doctor Alleviates Migraine Headaches With Chiropractic

By Derick Scartel

For thousands of years, humans have suffered migraine pain. Many different types of therapies have been tried, some more successful than others. For example, three millennia ago, in an attempt to allow evil spirits thought to cause the pain to escape, people had holes drilled in the skull. Today there are better and less invasive options. A Sydney chiropractor may be able to bring relief of the pain.

While there are several theories as to why people suffer migraines, no one is sure of the exact cause. One of the more popular theories blames a chemical imbalance in the brain for the pain. Triggers, such as food or hormones may cause the capillaries in one's brain to dilate. These blood vessels may become inflamed and irritate nerve fibers. The result is severe pain.

While some find pain relief through medication, the approach does not work for all. Some times patients find the side effects of the medication worse than the symptoms of a migraine. This has caused many to turn to chiropractic for help.

Chiropractors believe some migraines originate in the spine. When vertebrae become misaligned in a condition known as a subluxation, nerves that travel through the spine become irritated. The condition can increase the occurrence of chemical imbalances in one's brain. By realigning the spine using chiropractic, pressure is relieved form nerves allowing them to heal and reducing the chances of headache.

In addition to spinal adjustments, individuals may reduce their chances of a migraine by gently stretching the neck. They should take frequent breaks if required to remain in the same position for extended periods, such as at a computer. In addition, a firm pillow to support the neck when sleeping may be useful.

A Sydney chiropractor offers non-invasive help for migraine sufferers. In addition, the chiropractor can provide help for many other painful conditions. Many people find relief from chronic pain through chiropractic.
