Why A Prosthodontist Makes The Best Cosmetic Dentist

By Emory Somervale

If you haven't heard about a prosthodontist, don't be alarmed. This is a valid specialisation in dentistry and they're taught to replace and revive missing teeth to attain more naturally looking teeth. First they graduate from dentistry then they study and train for 3 years more to get their specialization in teeth replacement. While their job might appear similar to what cosmetic dentist practices do, it is not a similar thing because prosthodontists not only deal with the teeth but the form of the face as well since the jaw and teeth affect the lower part of your face.

Requirement Instead of Cosmetic. The majority of the work of a prosthodontist is mandatory rather than just cosmetic. They replace missing teeth as the teeth had been knocked out by accident, have fallen out because of disease or some other unlucky event. They can also revive the entire mouth which requires talents in dentures, implants and other regular talents in dentistry. A regular dentist cannot do it because they are trained to just cope with one tooth at a time rather than having to reconstruct the mouth, making sure it is functional for chewing and in order that it supports the shape of the face. They improve the health, function and appearance of their patients. That is the reason why prosthodontics are also called dental prosthetics.

How Prosthodontists Train. A prosthodontist will actually have a basic dentistry degree. They then will focus on cosmetic restoration. This is in part why they make some of the best cosmetic dentists. But they are really not the sort of experts you may go to for a routine bleaching or having veneers put on to even out your wonderfully functional teeth. Prosthodontists handle much more heavy conditions like restoring an implant and improving the workings of your teeth while perfecting the appearance of a smile. They are the last resort in dentistry since they deal with the worst that can happen to your teeth and mouth, when you lose your teeth fully. A regular dentist will mend the tooth, but a specialist will replace it. The States, Canada and Australia will credit prosthodontist specialists where in they are recognised by the nations dental associations.

Sub-specialty in Prosthodontics. Maxillofacial prosthetics is the sole sub speciality in dentistry. A few prosthodontists train to become specialists in Oral and Maxillofacial Prosthodontics. To do this they take one year fellowship to coach as Maxillofacial prostheticains whereby they conduct oral surgery and treatments with prosthodontic. They treat patients who have maxillofacial defects in the head and neck that has been caused by accidents, major sicknesses, cancer, surgery, or birth problems.

There are other types of prostheses aside from the teeth that include synthesised nose, eyes and other crucial facial features that make up the human face. This type of treatment uses the expertise from different experts who coordinate and work together. Dentists in this sub specialisation are highly skilled and admired in their field that they are known as so called bullet-proof dentists.
